Craig Galey

Craig Galey, age 52, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away at his residence on February 18th, 2025.

Craig Thomas Galey was born amidst the autumn hues of Garnett, Kansas, on October 31, 1972. He was the second of four children born to Tom and Dede (Borders) Galey. Craig grew up in Garnett, graduating from Garnett High School with the class of 1991 before earning a Bachelor's Degree from Emporia State University.

Craig held a profound love for the outdoors, finding solace and joy in the pursuits of hunting and fishing. Many memorable family fishing trips to Canada remained a cherished highlight. His loyal Brittany Spaniel, Junior, was a beloved companion for many years, reflecting Craig's innate affinity for all creatures, wild and tame.

A passion for go-karts ignited in simple pasture rides and evolved into the thrill of racing. He found camaraderie and purpose working at his family's locker plant, particularly during deer season, which only deepened his love for the hunt and his love for smoking meat.

Childhood memories painted a vivid picture of Craig's unique character. The necessity of riding backwards in the family station wagon and the resulting car sickness. Craig loved riding horses as a boy and later in life he was one of the founding members in the now traditional Jasper Trail Ride each December, where tales were often shared with laughter.

For the past several years Craig worked at Smoked Creations in Ottawa. Some of his coworkers remarked of his willingness to help.
