Cristino "Cris" Nicolas, age 66, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. Cris was born on November 5, 1949, at Baguio City, Philippines. He was one of ten children born to Sixto and Cristina (Singson) Nicolas. Cris grew up in Baguio City, attending school there. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Baguio City. He moved to Manila where worked at the University of Philippines General Hospital as a Medical Technologist. While working there he met his future wife, Teresa. Cris was united in marriage to Maria Teresa Donato on March 31, 1990, in Manila, Philippines. This union was blessed with two sons, J.J. and Jorel. Cris and Teresa desired a life of more opportunity for their family. They knew that migrating to the United States meant leaving good jobs that they both held however, after much deliberation, Teresa migrated to the Unites States in 1995. She later moved to Garnett, where Cris and J.J. joined her in 1997. Cris then began working as a Medical Technologist at the Anderson County Hospital. In 2004 they were blessed with their second son, Jorel. Cris worked there until retiring in May of 2016. Cris was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett. His faith was an integral part of his life, including his daily devotions and Rosary. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Teresa Nicolas on March 24, 2013; his brothers, Pedro (Pete) Nicolas, Romulo (Romy) Nicolas, Feliciano (Feli) Nicolas, Arnulfo (Nol) Nicolas, and Nicanor (Nick) Nicolas. Cris is survived by his sons, J.J. Nicolas of Kansas City, Missouri and Jorel Nicolas of Garnett, Kansas; two sisters, Tess Mayo of Brooklyn, New York, Mariam Warraich and husband Zaheer of Tracy, California; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and in the Philippines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Family will greet friends following a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
