Dale Douglass, age 79, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on September 4, 2011, at St. Luke's Plaza, Kansas City, Missouri. Dale Irvin Douglass was born on June 30, 1932, in the Cola Hill Neighborhood of Coffey County, Kansas. He was the youngest of three sons born to John Irvin and Rovilla Ann (Hill) Douglass. Dale graduated from Burlington High School in 1950. On December 30, 1951, he married Marlene Steffey and had two sons, Galen Irvin and Todd Kyle. They later divorced. On April 28, 1979, he married Patricia (McGuirk) Falls in Garnett, where he made his home until his death. Dale farmed, and worked for Coffey County REC, and in 1975, he opened Douglass Insurance and Real Estate in Burlington, along with his auction company, D&D Auction. He loved the auction business, gardening, and children; especially his grandchildren, each of which had a special nickname. He always had a pocket full of Tootsie Rolls to share. He was active in Burlington Rotary, Leroy OES, Garnett Lions, Iola Masonic Lodge, Neosho Valley Grange, and the Kansas State Grange. Dale served on the board of the Garnett Senior Center, and a member of the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association, donating his services for many charitable organizations. He never met a stranger. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Clarence; and son Galen. He is survived by his wife, Pat, of the home; son, Todd and wife Darlene of Paxico, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Debra Douglass-Metsker of Lawrence; stepchildren, Donald Falls and wife Rida of LaFayette, Colorado, Toni Gimple and husband Calvin of Garnett, Kansas; granddaughter, Jana (Douglass) Flory and husband Tim of Lawrence; grandsons, Jeremy Douglass and wife Amy of Lawrence; Josh Douglass and wife Ashley of Paxico; Jamie Douglass and wife Elizabeth of Wamego; Tyler Douglass of Baker University, Baldwin City; great grandchildren, Hannah Tribble; Dalton Douglass; Brevin Flory; Maison Flory; Hayleigh Wempe; Addison Douglass; Galen Dodge Douglass; and Madelyn Douglass. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Burlington, Kansas. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to Coffey County 4-H Scholarship Fund or Garnett Senior Center.
