Daniel "Dan" Culver, age 61, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 in Wichita, Kansas.
Dan was born April 17, 1959 to Joseph “Gene” and Donna (Kunkel) Culver in Pittsburg, Kansas. Dan attended school in Iola, Kansas and graduated in 1978. After high school, he attended Allen Community College. After school, he began working in the oil fields. He later took up carpentry and ended his career by devoting the last 15 years to a career at Gates Rubber Company in Iola. He was united in marriage in 1983 to Karen Henderson. Their union was blessed with three children. They later divorced.
Dan was an avid fisherman, gardener, carpenter, pool shark, and so much more. In high school, Dan excelled in Track & Field and held the discus record for four years. Dan loved to share his passion for gardening with family and friends and shared the spoils with all. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic church and a long time member and past officer of Iola Elks Lodge #569. Every opportunity that he had, he would spend time with his grandchildren. He was more than just a grandpa in his grandchildren’s eyes.
Dan is preceded in death by his father.
Dan is survived by his mother, Donna Culver of Iola, Kansas; daughter, Cassie Freimiller of Iola; two sons, Tim Culver of Humboldt, Kansas and Kenny Culver of Iola; two grandchildren, Titus Jones and Lydia Culver of Iola; four brothers, Ed Culver of Yates Center, Kansas, Chris Culver and wife, Lurita of Piqua, Kansas, David Culver of Olathe, Kansas, Jim Culver and wife, Becky of Stayton, Oregon; five sisters, Denise Jackson and husband, Rick of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Barbara Downey and husband, Randy of Yates Center, Gina Baker and husband, Robbie of Humboldt, Julia Middleton and husband, Benedict of Iola, Jacque Riddle and husband, Darrell of Chanute, Kansas; and numerous other family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held in honor of Dan on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 11:30 at St. Mary’s Owl Creek Cemetery in Yates Center, Kansas. Memorials in honor of Dan are suggested to the Daniel Culver Memorial Fund and may be left with the funeral home. Condolences for the family may be left online at
