Dave Holman, age 76, of Welda, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Health Center in Topeka, Kansas. Lester David Holman was born on February 20, 1942, in Chanute, Kansas. He was the third of seven born to Lester Wayne and Matilda Alice (Thompson) Holman. Dave grew up in Chanute until moving to Welda following the flood of 1951. He attended school in Welda. Following school, he served in the U.S. Navy. Dave was a veteran of the Viet Nam War, following the war he served as a flight engineer. He retired in 1981 after 21 years of service. In his retirement, Dave worked a number of different jobs in the Welda area, including pulling oil wells with Mick Baugher, working at Ron Gull’s body shop, and building IMCA racecars at his shop in Chanute. Dave enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends at Trade Winds and at the Colony Café. Dave married Bonnie York in 1963 in Sedan, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children. They later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford Wells; sister, Nina Baker; and daughter-in-law, Gwynn Holman. Dave is survived by his son, Les Holman of Welda; daughter, Carolyn Punches and husband Jerry of Burlingame, Kansas; two brothers, Paul Holman and wife, Pam of Welda and John Holman and wife, Vicki of Meriden, Kansas; three sisters, Judy Thyer of Iola, Kansas, Delores Bishop of Chanute, Kansas, Linda Graham and husband Mike of Heavener, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 2, 2018, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Welda Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and left in care of the funeral home.
