David Dickes

November 18, 1959 — January 4, 2025

David Joseph Dickes, age 65, passed away on January 4, 2025 at Richmond Healthcare. He was born on November 18, 1959 in Denver, Colorado to Robert and Frances Dickes.

David lived life to the fullest, never living a dull moment. He graduated from Alameda High School with the Class of 1978 and went on to earn his welding certification which was one of his many talents.

During high school he worked at the Cow Palace burger joint, and drove a fast 1964 Impala, creating unforgettable memories with his friends and a special group of ladies along the way. He loved attending as many concerts as possible at Red Rocks, some of his favorite bands to see were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones and even the concert he slept through- the Eagles. Many memories were also made at the Evans Drive In with his high school friends.

David was an avid lover of the outdoors, enjoying four-wheeling in the Colorado mountains and collecting beautiful gems at local shows. He had a deep love for animals, with many cherished dogs throughout his life, including Nakita, his loyal companion who traveled everywhere with him, and later, a dog named Sue. David was passionate about fast cars, shooting guns, riding motorcycles and touring beautiful places with buddies. David found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often making time to stop at his favorite dives for a good drink, and enjoying the camaraderie of hole-in-the-wall bars where he loved playing pool. He was known for his lively personality, and his love for the ladies was evident in every chapter of his journey. He definitely embraced the philosophy, "We're not here for a long time, just for a good time."

David worked at Gates Rubber Company and went on to dedicate 25 years to Exel Energy Power Plant where he made many lifelong friends. David will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his intelligence, and his unfiltered approach to life. If he was your friend, you knew it and he would do anything for you no matter what that may have been. But if he did not like you, well you knew that as well.

After spending the majority of his life in Colorado, David made his home in Garnett, Kansas, where he created many wonderful friendships. He attended Beacon House of Worship, was an active member of the Men's Group at Hope Anthem Church and enjoyed meals and fellowship at the Garnett Senior Center.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

David is survived by his sister Debbie and her husband David and their three daughters and many friends.
