Dawanna Sue Nichols, age 68, of Westphalia, Kansas passed away at her home on Friday, January 2, 2015. She was born April 14, 1946 at Sikeston, Missouri, the daughter of Jim and Gene (Goins) Littleton. She grew up in Sikeston, attending school there, graduating from Sikeston High School in 1964. Following school she attended college at Liberty, Missouri and then Cape Girardeau, Missouri. On January 26, 1967 Dawanna was united in marriage to Carl Nichols in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. This union was blessed with seven children. They initially made their home in Anderson County, living in Welda and Westphalia before moving to West Plains, Missouri where they lived for 10 years. In 1986 they moved to Humboldt before settling on their current dairy farm near Westphalia, in 1988. Dawanna worked alongside her family on the farm and was an expert in the care of baby calves. Her wealth of knowledge was well respected and farmers far and near would often call on her for advice. She enjoyed reading and watching movies, however the movie had to be a VHS. She was a member of the Mont Ida Church of The Brethren. Dawanna's greatest joy came later in life in the form of grandchildren. She was a devoted grandmother and will be missed by family and friends alike. Dawanna was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Jimmy. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Carl of the home; their children, Mary Kropf and husband, Greg, of Westphalia, Rachel Dougherty and husband, Joe, of Garnett, Kansas, John Nichols and wife, Lara, of Chugiak, Alaska, Jesse Nichols of Westphalia, Katherine Nichols of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carolyn Terrel and husband, Bryan of Oklahoma City, and Donna Nichols of Cheektowaga, New York; 16 beloved grandchildren and one brother, Don Littleton of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
