Deloris "Dee" Hummel, age, 90, passed away peacefully at Medicalodges-Iola, in Iola, Kansas on November 16, 2023.
Deloris Marie Wells was born to Henry and Edna (Creviston) Wells on May 5, 1933, in Basset, Kansas.
Dee spent her youth life in LaHarpe and attended school there until moving to California in her early adult life. After a few years there she moved back to the Wichita, Kansas area. She began her career at Coleman Manufacturing, where she retired after 35 years of employment.
In 1963, she married Chris Christenson, he passed in 1973; she then married Delbert "Satch" Hummel on February 18, 1977, and they made their home in Towanda, Kansas before moving to Yates Center, Kansas. Satch then passed on February 27, 2015. After his passing she made her home in Iola, Kansas.
Dee was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Iola, Kansas. She loved spending time gardening, quilting, shopping, and spending time with her dear family.
She was a resilient woman who encountered many obstacles in life that never slowed her down. She battled through cancer, survived a tornado and a home explosion. While Dee had no children of her own, she filled the role of being a mother, grandma and grammy to many.
Deloris is survived by her "children", Mike (Amy) Ledbetter of Pittsburg, Kansas, Kimberly (Shane) Jeffery of McCune, Kansas, and Kindith (Ron)Holman of Iola, Kansas. Kindith dedicated her heart and soul to all the needs of Dee in her later years; grandchildren, Chelsea(Travis)Buck of Iola, Kansas, Abby(Lane)Gray of Pittsburg, Kansas, Chase (Makayla) Pipkin of McCune, Kansas, Isabelle Adams of McCune, Kansas, Molly Ledbetter of Pittsburg, Kansas, Josie Ledbetter, Pittsburg, Kansas, Casey Hummel, Levi Hummel, Brady Stephens, Justin Anderson, Beau Hummel, Tyson Hummel, of Towanda area; great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Wesson Buck and many other great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother, Lorraine Wells; two sisters, Jo Ledbetter and Vickie LaMay; grandson, Matt Anderson and granddaughter, Gabrielle Pipkin.
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel. Family will greet friends prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Inurnment will take place at Pioneer Cemetery, Cheney, Kansas, at a later date.
