Denise Andrea (Paul) Compton, age 47, of Westphalia, Kansas, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 7, 2015. She was born on September 28, 1967 in Garnett, Kansas at the Anderson County Hospital, the daughter of Edward James and Phoebe (Greenwood) Paul. Denise grew up in Colony, Kansas and graduated from Crest High School in 1986 and then from Allen County Community College in 2006. Following high school Denise moved to Mulvane, Kansas where she worked for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita for 16 years. Denise was married to Billy Carter of Mulvane, Kansas, they later divorced. She then married Alex Compton on June 9, 2004 in Garnett, Kansas. They made their home in Westphalia, Kansas. Denise worked at numerous jobs, including, Wolf Creek and Koozies by Chillers in Burlington, and Granny's Restaurant in LeRoy. She was currently employed at American Eagle in Ottawa, Kansas. Denise was a member of the Living Water Fellowship in Gas, Kansas. Denise was an avid equestrian and animal lover. She currently has two Arabian horses, Twilight Girl and Shayna; two dogs, Cinnamon and Jake; and two cats, Purdy and Gracie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Phoebe Paul; grandparents, James and Julia Greenwood; and niece, Julianna Ewing. Denise is survived by her daughter, Kim and Dustin Abell of St. Louis, Missouri; granddaughter, Skye Abell and grandson, Payton Abell; husband, Alex Compton; mother-in-law, Pat Prior of San Angelo, Texas; father-in-law, Harry Compton Sr. of Independence, Missouri; one brother and four sisters, Lonnie Greenwood, Mrs. Christina and Bill Culbertson and Bonnie Fitzmaurice, all of Topeka, Kansas; Mrs. Mary and Gary Matuska of Gas, Kansas, Elsie Ewing of Neosho, Missouri; her aunt and uncle, Ivan and Cecilia Hill of Welda, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett with burial following in the St. Teresa Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to A.C.A.R.F. animal shelter and left in care of the funeral home.
