Donald "Bill" Brixey

Donald "Bill" Allen Brixey, Sr., age 85, passed away on July 2, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.

Bill was born on February 4, 1939, in Iola, Kansas, to R.S. "Bill" and Georgia (Brooks) Brixey. He grew up in the Iola area and graduated from Iola High School with the class of 1957. Right after high school, Bill went to work for the Nelson brothers in La Harpe, Kansas. On August 21, 1960, he married his love, Leanna Evans. They made their home in Kincaid, Kansas, until they moved to Iola in 2015.

Bill was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He and Bill Croghan built houses for around 30 years. Together, they liked coyote hunting and bird hunting with his dogs. Bill also enjoyed playing slow pitch softball. Around 1986, Bill worked for Eastern Kansas Livestock doing business as DBA for the Fort Scott Sale Company. In 2000, he went to work at Joe's Pens for Bob Walrod and Joe Donahue. He worked here until he retired in 2008.

Bill was preceded in death by both parents; two sisters, Betty Parker and Judy Powell; one infant brother, Jerry Brixey; in-laws, Paul and Margaret Evans; and beloved dog, Gator.

Bill is survived by his wife, Leanna, of the home; two sons, Donnie Brixey of Lebo and Jeff (Loriann) Brixey of Greenville, Texas; grandchildren, Savannah (Matthew) Humphrey, Scarlett (Joe) Westbrook, Trent (Tamara) Godwin; six great-granddaughters, Mattie, Kynslee, Emma Jo, Allysen, Zoey, and Sutton; and many other cousins and friends.

A funeral service for Bill is planned for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54 in Iola. Interment will immediately follow at Kincaid Cemetery. A visitation will be held the night prior to the service, on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
