Donald Wayne Misenhelter, 70, of Iola, Kansas, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at his home. Don was born November 1, 1940, in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Albert and Mable (York) Misenhelter. He grew up in the Joplin area and joined the United States Navy in 1957 where he served as a plane captain on the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard until he was honorably discharged from the service in 1962. On August 17, 1962, Don married Jacquelyn Clinton at Iron Gates Christian Church in Joplin. They made their home in Joplin where he worked as a machinist for O&F Machines for 15 years before the family moved to Iola. Don worked for Berg Manufacturing in Iola a short time before he and Neil Westervelt started M&W Machines in Iola from which he recently retired. He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Iola for a number of years and more recently attended Fellowship Regional Church in Iola. Don enjoyed going to air shows, flying model airplanes, fishing, hunting, and riding with the Shrine Little Wheels. SURVIVORS: His wife of 48 years: Jacquelyn Misenhelter of the home 2 Sons: Randall Lee Misenhelter & wife, Crystal of Iola, Kansas, and Scott Lynde Misenhelter & wife, Rebecca of Gilbert, Arizona 4 Grandchildren: Alyssa Hicks, Kristin Michael, Bryce Misenhelter and Ashlynde Misenhelter 1 Great Granddaughter: Brienna Kelley He was preceded in death by their daughter, Christina Renee Hicks in 1989, also his mother, and his brother, Harlen Misenhelter. VISITATION: 7:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Iola. The Pastor Jeff Cokely will officiate.
