Donna S. Colvin, age 72, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Donna was born February 26, 1938 at Prescott, Kansas, the daughter of Ray and Inez (Bright) Odell. She grew up in Prescott, graduating from high school there in 1955. She married Carl Colvin on September 3, 1956 at Kansas City, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children. The couple moved to Garnett in 1956. After moving to Garnett Donna began babysitting for others in her home. She later went to work as a teacher's aide at Irving Grade School. Donna then went to work at JC Penney, before working at the Health Department. In 1979 she began working for Dr. Leitch and Dr. Dougherty. She worked at the Doctor's office for over 23 years before retiring in 2003. After retiring she began volunteering at the A.R.C. Thrift Shop. Donna loved to garden, and to feed the birds and butterflies. She was a music lover and enjoyed dancing with Carl. Donna enjoyed traveling and their trips to Branson. Donna loved her dogs, Penny, Tar, Bella and her cat, Sassy. Her greatest love was her family, especially holiday gatherings. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Donnie Odell. Donna is survived by her husband, Carl, of the home; two sons, Mike Colvin, and Tim and wife, Kristi, all of Garnett; two daughters, Carla Nelson of Wichita, Kansas, and Tami Hiestand of Shawnee, Kansas; three grandchildren, Adam White, Heather Turner and husband, Bryan, and Clint Hiestand; two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Corbyn; and a sister, Darlene Ford and husband, Howard, of Archie, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7:00-9:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Garnett.
