Donnie Yancey

January 18, 1942 — August 4, 2024

Donnie Ray Yancey, age 82, passed away at his home in Iola, Kansas, surrounded by all of his loved ones on August 4, 2024.

Donnie was born on January 18, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, to Henry and Fayma (Garner) Yancey. At an early age, the family moved to Iola, where Donnie attended school and graduated in 1960.

Donnie married the love of his life, Nancy Folk, in 1962. They were able to tolerate each other long enough to make it to 62 blissful years of marriage. To this marriage, two daughters were born.

Donnie spent many years as a truck driver, before starting his own business, Yancey Digging Service. While still operating his business, he went to work for the City of Gas. Eventually, he transitioned to being full time at the city and closed down his digging service. Donnie later retired from the City of Gas.

Donnie was preceded in death by both of his parents; his step-father, Paul Vaughn; siblings, Charles Cornell, Norma Yancey, Phyllis Vaughn, Betty Bowers; and son-in-law, Chuck Leach.

Donnie is survived by his wife; daughters, Tammy Spillman (Jim Tooles) of Hudson, Florida, Donna (Tom) Hibbard of Yates Center; grandchildren, Paul (Haley) Porter, Sloan Spillman, Maranda Spillman, Ethan (Savannah) Leach, Emily (Kyle) Kinzle, Kendra (Derek) Shaw; great-grandchildren, Billie Jean Porter, Emmalene Porter, Jordyn Spillman, Kaelyn Leach, River and Rowyn Kinzle, Lakyn and Lenyx Shaw; siblings, Maryann Garton of Lathrop, Missouri, Russell Vaughn of Iola, Dennis Vaughn of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Billie Verdot of Fenton, Missouri; lifelong friends, Raymond and Emma Preston of Iola; and numerous of beloved nieces and nephews.
