Doris Conger

Doris Eileen Conger, 92, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Allen County Hospital in Iola. Doris was born March 25, 1918, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of James Harlen and Ella (Stroup) Atkins. She grew up in Iola. On August 14, 1935, Doris married Kenneth E. (Gene) Conger in Iola. They made their home in Iola where she worked at H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory for about 10 years and then at Staley's Home Decorators for 7 years before retiring. Gene preceded her in death on December 5, 1988. Doris moved to the Townhouse in 1988, to Guest Home Estates in 2000 and to Iola Nursing Center in 2008. She was a member of the Old Time Fidlers, Pickers & Singers. SURVIVORS: 1 Half-Brother: Marion Robinson of Wichita, KS 1 Sister: Ina Mae Ransom of Iola, KS A number of nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by one brother, Harlen Atkins, and by four sisters, Gladys Creason, Violet Bullock, Grace Tindel, and Helen McGowan. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
