Doris Elizabeth Gorden, 89, of rural Iola, Kansas, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas. Doris was born August 27, 1922, at Yates Center, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Opperman) Weide. She graduated from Yates Center High School and Iola Junior College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at Toronto and Onion Creek Country Schools. On March 19, 1944, Doris married Gerald D. Gorden and they made their home on a farm southwest of Iola. She helped with the farming along with their fertilizer business. Mr. Gorden preceded her in death on March 19, 1988. On June 22, 1991, Doris married Vernon Diebolt. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church and has been active as a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher and church pianist. SURVIVORS: Husband: Vern Diebolt of the home 3 Children: Gary Gorden of Chicago, IL, Sharon Lawless & husband, David of Coweta, OK and Debra Gamache & husband, Dan of Derby, KS 6 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4 brothers. VISITATION: 7:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola.
