Doris Irene Hobelman

Doris I. Hobelman, age 87, of Colony, Kansas, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 1, 2009. Doris was born July 15, 1922 at Colony, Kansas, the daughter of William Joseph and Nellie Elizabeth (Murray) Ensley. Doris completed high school at Colony. Following high school Doris attended Iola Junior College and Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg. She then taught school in a country school at Colony before moving to Kansas City. She worked as a bookkeeper in Kansas City and Ottawa. On September 10, 1956 Doris married Olan Otto Hobelman at Fort Scott, Kansas. The couple then made their home on the farm at Moran. Following Olan's death Doris moved to Colony. Doris was an avid reader. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Women's Business Clubs in Kansas City and Ottawa. She enjoyed the time she spent with the neighborhood club while she lived on the farm at Moran. She was preceded in death by her husband, on June 15, 1974, her parents, a brother, Gordon Ensley, two sisters, Leota Wynn and Wilma Jean Roush. Doris is survived by her sons, Jay Darrel Hobelman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, John Olan Hobelman of Topeka, Kansas, and Jerry Ray Hobelman of Goldsboro, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Wesley, Christine, and Kaylynn Hobelman; and one brother, Tom Ensley and wife, Maxine, of Colony, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, interment will follow in the Colony Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Colony. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Unlimited, a Domestic Violence Shelter.
