Dorothy Hurst

Dorothy L. Hurst, 93, of Iola, Kansas, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Life Care Center of Wichita. Dorothy was born March 13, 1917, at Washington, Missouri, the daughter of Victor and Laura (Cockley) Datweiler. She grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. On October 15, 1937, Dorothy married Robert E. "Bob" Hurst. They made their home in several communities before moving to Iola in 1951. She worked several years for Archer Insurance and Real Estate and later for Ralph Moser Agency before she retired. Mr. Hurst preceded her in death on March 6, 1990. Dorothy was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, Garden Club and Allen County Hospital Auxiliary. SURVIVORS: Her 3 Children: David Hurst & wife, Pat, Sandy Collins & husband, Dean and Mike Hurst & wife, Sandy 6 Grandchildren: Kevin Collins, Gregg Collins, Tracey Allen Bass, Paul Hurst, Ryan Hurst and Amanda Pokorny 12 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred and Mae Datweiler. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:30 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola. The Rev. Trudy Kenyon Anderson will officiate. VISITATION: The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service.
