Dorothy Reed

Dorothy W. Reed, 91, of Gas, Kansas, died Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Dorothy was born March 9, 1922, on a farm northeast of Yates Center, Kansas, the daughter of Bert and Hattie (Culver) Ralston. She grew up in Yates Center. Dorothy married Jack Reed in 1938 in Yates Center and they made their home in the Iola and Yates Center areas before moving to Neosho Falls in 1972. Jack preceded her in death March 12, 1986. She moved to Gas in the early 1990's. SURVIVORS: 3 Sons: John Reed of Piqua, KS, William Reed of Chanute, KS and Ricky Reed of Muskogee, OK 6 Daughters: Phyllis Hobbs of Wagoner, OK, Millie Scantlin of Lawrence, KS, Margaret Anderson of Iola, KS, Jackie Yocham of Muskogee, OK, Marilyn Ulery of Gas, KS and Sarah Womelsdorf of LaHarpe, KS She also leaves a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Bland, grandsons Orva M. "Sonny" Bland, Jr., Jimmy Dale Bland, granddaughter Trena Lee Ulery and great grandsons Levi Bland and Jerry Allen Bland, Jr. Cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at LaHarpe City Hall. Inurnment will be in the Cedarvale Cemetery at Neosho Falls at a later date.
