Dorothy Alice Hodo, age 87, of LaHarpe, Kansas passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Olathe Hospice House, Olathe, Kansas. Dorothy was the youngest of six children born to Fred William Jackson and Nellie Elene (Lister) Jackson. She was born on November 18, 1930 at North Platte, Nebraska. Dorothy grew up on a ranch ten miles north of North Platte, and attended school in a one-room country schoolhouse for the first eight grades. She went on to graduate from North Platte Senior High in 1948 where she was a member of the Honor Society. Dorothy then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma from 1949 to 1951. While in Enid she met her future husband, Homer Eugene Hodo of Quanah, Texas. Dorothy attended the University Of Nebraska School Of Nursing in 1951. On December 29, 1951 Dorothy was united in marriage to Gene at North Platte, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with five children. Dorothy faithfully followed her military husband to Hawaii, Guam, Germany, and many other military bases throughout the states. They eventually settled in LaHarpe in 1998. Dorothy loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and followed Him faithfully. She and Gene were devout members of the Westview Baptist Church, Chanute. She loved her family, life, baking pies, traveling and sewing. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene on March 19, 2003; one daughter-in-law; one grandson; two sisters and three brothers. Dorothy is survived by her five children, Charles Raymond Hodo and wife, Frances of Spring Hill, Kansas, Howard Dean Hodo and wife, Connie of Princeton, Kansas, Jocellyn Marie Tumbleson of Joplin, Missouri, Peggy Lou Whitford and husband, Ronald of Ottawa, Kansas, and Andrew John Hodo of LaHarpe, Kansas; 9 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Louise Black of Enid, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Westview Baptist Church, 1415 S. Plummer, Chanute, Kansas with a reception to follow.  The burial will reconvene at 1:30 p.m., in the LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the start of the service on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions in Dorothy's honor may be made to the Westview Baptist Church.
