Douglas Eugene Roberts, age 75, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at his home.
Doug was the second of ten children born to Herbert Joseph and Nancy Pauline (Nelson) Roberts. He was born on October 25, 1943, at Kansas City, Missouri. Doug’s family lived in numerous places throughout his younger years. He later lived with his grandmother in Kansas City, and attended Paseo High School before entering the U.S. Navy. While serving in the Navy he met his future wife, Joyce Ewert. They were united in marriage on July 25, 1962, in Iola, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children, Michael and Thresea. They originally made their home in Kanas City, before moving to Belton, Missouri. In 1972 they moved to their current home in Richmond. Doug retired from his work at the K-Mart Warehouse in Lawrence, Kansas after thirty years. While living in Kansas City he had served on the KCMO Police Department. He also worked for the Belton Fire Department, and was Police Chief of Richmond before going to work in Lawrence.
He loved to ride his Goldwing motorcycle on day trips. Doug always had an interest in working on his family’s cars. He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2680, Scipio, Kansas.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Roberts on July 6, 2009; an infant brother; three additional brothers, Joe, Terry, Ricky and four sisters, Sheila Hernandez, Paulette Brewer, Sandy Dannenbrock and Nancy Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Roberts, of the home; daughter, Thresea Smith and husband Travis of Garnett, Kansas; two grandchildren, Megan Marnell and husband, Jason and Tristan Smith; sister, Bonnie Hernandez and husband Joseph of Osawatomie, Kansas;
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 9, 2019, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home.
