Dwyane Foltz, age 81, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Parkview Heights in Garnett, Kansas.
Dwyane Christopher Foltz was born on November 25, 1942, in Garnett, Kansas. He was the first of eight children born to Paul J. and Berneda (Mersman) Foltz. He grew up in Garnett, graduating from Garnett High School. Following high school Dwyane worked on a crew building grain bins and windmills throughout the midwest. While working in Nebraska, he would meet his future wife, Barbara Kelso. They were united in marriage on April 15, 1966, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Shawn and Travis. Dwyane and Barb lived in Nebraska for a few years after getting married and moved to Garnett in 1968. Dwyane began working in the Bowling Alley with his family, adding on the Pioneer Room Restaurant later known as Mr. D's and continuing the operation of the bowling alley and restaurant for 40 plus years. Throughout his career Dwyane was always willing to entertain other business endeavors, including Sunflower Gifts and Cheese, Page-Foltz Realty, and maintaining his real estate brokerage license until 2016.
Dwyane spent many hours working in the bowling alley and restaurant, when he was able to get away he wanted to play hard. When his sons were young he was involved in many youth sports in Garnett, including bowling, flag football and helping to start the youth soccer program. Weekends would often mean boating and water skiing at Pomona Lake. Dwyane also enjoyed skeet shooting and golfing. The family was able to enjoy many trips together, including snow skiing in Colorado, Disneyland and California, and visiting his brother in Virginia. Later in life Dwyane added beekeeping to his list of hobbies and served his own honey in the restaurant. He was a Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan and a closet Denver Broncos fan. Dwyane poured countless drinks and shared an equal number of stories with friends and family, please remember him with a Chivas and a splash of water.
Dwyane was a member of the Garnett Optimist Club, Holy Angels Church, and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling in many K of C tournaments over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Berneda Foltz; sister-in-law Carol Foltz, and brother-in-law Dennis Gardner.
Dwyane is survived by his wife, Barbara Foltz; his sons, Shawn Foltz and wife Molly of Shawnee, Kansas; Travis Foltz and wife Kim of Norwalk, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tanner and Kaleb Foltz, Gage and Bryn Foltz, and Joel Johnson; four brothers, Charles Foltz, Donald Joe Foltz and wife Nancy, Gary Foltz and wife Cindy, Dan Foltz and wife Monica; three sisters, Pauline Hermann, Janice Miller and husband Bill, and Arlene Gardner; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett. Dwyane's family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett.
