Earl "Gene" Cheever, 81, of LaHarpe, Kansas, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at his home. He was born July 9, 1928 in Toronto, Kansas, the son of Jay and Lydia (Anderson) Cheever. He grew up in Toronto and then joined the United States Army. He served two terms, the first in occupied Japan and the second in the Korean War. On August 22, 1950, Gene married Odessa Rogers. His employment took them to numerous communities. He worked at differend jobs but spent several years on a bridge crew for Beachners. He has made his home in LaHarpe for the past four years. SURVIVORS: Wife: Odessa Cheever of the home 1 Son: Danny Cheever of LaHarpe, Kansas 3 Daughters: Brenda Fry of ElDorado, Kansas, Cynthia Geisler of Piqua, Kansas, and Kara Cheever of LaHarpe, Kansas 4 Grandchildren: Jeremy & Justin Fry and Damon & Aaron Geisler 2 Great Grandchildren: Madeline & Hunter Fry A Nephew: Jerry Cheever He was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Cheever and a sister, Peggy Kuffler. Cremation has taken place and burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Toronto Cemetery Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
