Earl Gene Roberts, age 79, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. Earl was born on January 3, 1936, at Humboldt, Kansas, the son of Lester Earl and Creola (Wemmer) Roberts. His family moved to Garnett in 1942 when they purchased a farm south of town. Earl graduated from Garnett High School in 1954. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Carr on September 9, 1954, at Bush City, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children. Earl and Charlotte purchased their current home near Greeley in 1962. Earl was a farmer and he also worked at Greeley Co-op for over 15 years. He also served as a member of the Co-op Board of Directors for 15 years. Earl served on the local extension council and was a member and officer of the Garnett Young Farmers. He received the Anderson County Soil Conservation Award in 1973; he also received the Jaycee Outstanding Young Farmer Award. Earl coached softball in Greeley while his daughters were playing and then for a few years after. One of Earl's greatest joys was spending time with his family; he especially loved to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Roberts; and sister, Delma Boyce. Earl is survived by his wife, Charlotte Roberts, of the home; two sons, Randy Earl Roberts and wife Sherry of Pittsburg, Kansas; Danny Roberts and wife Donna of Garnett, Kansas; two daughters, Renee Pagenkopf and husband Kirk of Cumming, Georgia; Jana Boyt and husband Doug of Gardner, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery. Earl's family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Greeley First Responders and left in care of the funeral home.
