Earlene Ann Johnson, age 80, of Savonburg, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas. She was born December 21, 1931, in Chanute, the daughter of Earl and Verna Danielson Munson. Following graduation from Elsmore High School in 1949, Earlene married Harold LaVerne Johnson on May 7, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2008. Earlene was a fulltime home maker, but during her life was also a bookkeeper at Elsmore Grain Company and HiBo Truck Bed Manufacturing at Stark, Kansas, and was the clerk for the city of Savonburg for a number of years. She was baptized, confirmed and married in Friends Home Lutheran Church, Savonburg. During her lifetime membership at Friends Home, Earlene served many years as the Sunday School music director and choir member. She assisted her mother several years as choir director, taking over the choir leader duties when her mother retired. She served as the church organist for more than 35 years. She also belonged to Women of ELCA (WELCA). Earlene was an accomplished seamstress and cake maker. For both of her daughters' weddings, she made the bridesmaids dresses, wedding gowns, and wedding cakes. She loved cooking and baking meals for her children's and grandchildren's weddings, graduations, baptisms and confirmations. Birthdays were special celebrations to Earlene. She never missed calling every family member to sing "Happy Birthday," and each child, spouse and grandchild received a birthday cake along with a card. Survivors include two daughters, Janice Fewins and husband, Jim, Redfield, Kansas, and Pam Johnson and husband, Ron, Osage City, Kansas; one son, Gene Johnson, and wife, Cynthia, Moran, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Yoder and husband, Bart, Louisburg, Kansas, Jonathan Fewins and wife Lisa, Shawnee, Kansas, Joanna Fewins and Stephen Koranda, Lawrence, Kansas; Janelle Allee and husband Rhett, Iola, Kansas, Stacey Johnson and Josh Adamson, Wichita, Kansas, Wesley Johnson, Moran, Kylie Ericson and husband, Chris, Osage City, Kansas, and Kellie Johnson, New York City, New York; nine great-grandchildren, Brayden and Madelyn Yoder, Andrew, William and Patrick Fewins, Zachary, Thomas and Daniel Allee, and Tayler and Gavin Ericson. Also surviving is her sister Sharon Stover and husband, Frank, Altoona, Kansas, her sister-in-law Barbara Worthington, St. Paul, Kansas, and her brother-in-law Leon and wife, FloAnn Johnson, Savonburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Earlene was preceded in death by her infant brother, Earl Eugene Munson, and in-laws Mervin and Beverly Ard and Raymond Worthington. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 3, at Friends Home Lutheran Church, Savonburg. Interment will follow the service at the Swedish Cemetery west of the church. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 2, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Home, Moran, Kansas.
