Edgar C. "Ed" King, 86, of Chanute, Kansas, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at his home. Ed was born January 19, 1925, at Success, Arkansas, the son of Clarence and Notra (Melton) King. The family moved to Humboldt, Kansas, where he grew up and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On April 28, 1945, Ed married Billie E. McCoy in Humboldt. Following his honorable discharge from the service, they made their home in Chanute. Ed worked at Humboldt Brick and Tile before becoming a truck driver for Fowler and then Consolidated Oil before he retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post 170, and Otterbein United Methodist Church both in Chanute. He enjoyed camping and family outings. He collected country music albums and played the guitar when he was younger. SURVIVORS: His wife of 66 years: Billie King of the home 1 Son: Michael L. King of Opolis, KS 1 Daughter-In-Law: Karen L. King of Humboldt, KS 1 Brother: Charles King of Ponca City, OK 2 Sisters: Beth Perkins of Arizona City, AZ and Daisy Duggan of Andover, KS 6 Grandchildren: Kellie Hallacy & Mitchell King of Humboldt, KS, Kenton King of Colony, KS, Melissa King of Paola, KS, Kasey King of Opolis, KS, and Kylee Broomall of National Park, NJ 5 Great Grandchildren: Melanie Hallacy of Humboldt, KS, Blaine & Easton King of Colony, KS and Mason & Kayden Broomall of National Park, NJ He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Edgar Clifford King, Jr. and Melvern Jerome King, 1 grandson, Kolby King, 1 brother, Jerome King, 3 sisters, Hazel Rinehart, Gertie Wilhite and Norma Jean Finney and 2 infant sisters. Cremation has taken place. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery on west 21st Street, in Chanute. MEMORIAL: American Legion Post #170, Chanute, Kansas Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
