Edna Marie Elmenhorst, 83, of Moran, Kansas passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola. Edna was born September 14, 1933 at Okarche, Oklahoma to John Alphonse and Teresa Coletta (Smith) Wittrock. She grew up in Okarche and graduated from Holy Trinity High School. After graduation, she moved to New York City and worked as a telephone operator for a time before returning to Oklahoma. She married Joseph H. Elmenhorst on November 18, 1953 in Okarche. Together they made their home in El Reno, Oklahoma where they were blessed with their four children. They later moved to Moran in 1966 where they continued their life together raising their children on the family farm. Edna worked hard as a homemaker, and developed many skills in gardening, sewing, cooking, painting, flower arranging and many other creative pursuits. She was a diligent mother and grandmother who taught her children and grandchildren many of these talents as well as important life lessons. Survivors include her husband, Joe (Okie Joe) of the home, her children Karen Sager and husband, Bob of Moran, Chris Elmenhorst and wife, Sherry of LaHarpe, Carla Metcalfe and husband Jim of Chanute and Julie Hammes and husband Chris of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters, Harold Wittrock, Joan Wittrock, Henry Wittrock, Raymond Wittrock, Mark Wittrock, Irene Garrett, Clare Borelli, all of Oklahoma, and Anita Webb of Ohio. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Ruth Knecht, and a granddaughter Nicole Sigg. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, Iola with burial following in St. John's Cemetery, Gas. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the church. Visitation will follow in the Parish Hall from 6:45 until 8:00 P.M. Contributions in memory of Edna may be made to Catholic Charities or Hope Unlimited and left in care of the funeral home.
