Edna Marie Peterson, 89, former Vernon and Iola resident, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Moran Manor Nursing Center in Moran, Kansas where she has resided since 2007. Edna Marie was born January 11, 1920, in Neosho Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Nelson and Mary Etta (Harkness) Peterson. She grew up in Woodson County and attended school in Vernon, graduating in 1938. She worked as a waitress all of her life. She worked in Burlington and at Yates Center's B&B Cafe. She moved to Wichita to work at the Lassen Hotel Restaurant and numerous other restaurants in Wichita. In 1971, Edna returned to Vernon and purchased a home. She worked for Menegay's and Perry's restaurants in Iola before retiring in 1985 due to health problems. She was a member of the Vernon Methodist Church and later moved her membership to Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola. SURVIVORS: 3 Nieces: Carol Crawford & husband, Larry of Iola, KS, Janice Turner & husband, David of Hutchinson, KS, and Lois Adkinson of Morgan, TX 1 Nephew: Lyle Peterson & wife, Geney of LeRoy, KS Sister-in-law: Ethel Peterson of LeRoy, KS Several great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Angie Peterson and Thelma Davidson and brothers, Kenneth, Soren and Homer Peterson. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the Yates Center Cemetery. The Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
