Edward J. O'Connor, age 72, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at his residence. Ed was born November 22, 1946, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Edward J. O'Connor and Martha (Kidson) O'Connor. Ed graduated in 1964 from Macksville High School in Macksville, Kansas. Ed went on to earn a bachelor's degree and a master's degree, both from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas. Ed and Sue Roath were married August 10, 1968, in Lawrence, Kansas. Ed taught school in Iola in the 1970s and then began a career with HBD Industries in Chanute, Kansas, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in 2014. Ed was a longtime member and treasurer of Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church, Iola, Kansas. Ed was a farmer at heart! He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ed was a remarkable woodworker – he could build anything. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Kevin Edward O'Connor. Ed is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home; two daughters, Katharine Shepard and her husband, Jason, Yates Center, Kansas, Martha DeGrado and her husband, Vince, Iola, Kansas; five grandchildren, Zeb and Zac Shepard, Yates Center, Kansas, Natalie, Braiden, and Blane DeGrado, Iola, Kansas; and one brother Tim O'Connor, Topeka, Kansas. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church, 202 South Walnut Street, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas.
