Eileen M. Cooper, 89, of rural Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at her home. Eileen was born October 30, 1920 on the family farm west of Colony, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and May (Irwin) Gregory. She grew up at Colony where she graduated from high school in 1939. After high school, she worked at S.H. Kress in Iola and met and married Ivan H. Cooper on August 22, 1943. Ivan was serving during World War II. In January 1944, she and Vieve Crammer Singleton went to San Diego and worked in the Vultee Aircraft Corp. When Ivan was transferred to Fort Dix, New Jersey, she went there and picked blue berries. He went to Europe and she came to Iola and worked at Penney's and later at Economy Shoe Store. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2003. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Iola and enjoyed her flower gardens. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Carol Wilson of Iola, Kansas 1 Grandson: Kelly Wilson of rural Iola, Kansas 1 Great Granddaughter: Chandler Wilson Nieces and Nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Helen Maloney. VISITATION: 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola before leaving in procession for graveside services. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Steve Traw will officiate.
