Eileen Murphy

Eileen Murphy, age 82, of Chanute, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Labette Health Hospital in Parsons, KS.

Eileen Emma Stover was born in the family farm home west of Chanute, Kansas on December 26, 1942. She was the third of four children born to August and Emma (Harner) Stover. Eileen loved growing up on the farm and she attended a one-room country grade school before graduating from Chanute High School in 1960.

On June 3, 1966, Eileen married James Murphy. Their marriage was blessed with three sons: Dougie, Ronnie, and Robbie. She worked as a cashier at Wal-Mart in Chanute for 36 years, 8 months and 7 days.

As a devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Eileen's faith was an integral part of her life. She shared a deep connection with her mother and valued the wisdom she received. Eileen enjoyed renovating her home and spending time with friends, especially enjoying a good movie. She felt blessed to have Judy Boyer as a lifelong friend. Eileen lived according to her values and was a highly principled person. She was determined to improve her life and the lives of her family. A devoted wife, mother, and caregiver, she always prioritized the needs of others.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, August and Emma (Harner) Stover, and two brothers, Frank and James Stover.

She is survived by her husband, James Murphy, of the home; three sons, Doug and Vicki Murphy of Merriam, Kansas, Ron Murphy of Rowlett, Texas, and Rob and Jessi Murphy of Owasso, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Kai, Erin, Matt, Addisyn, and Dylan; and two great-grandchildren, Kadyen and Dravyen; one sister, Amelia Ann and Allen Klinge of Shawnee, Kansas; and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Stover of Altoona, Kansas, and Andrea Stover of Chanute, Kansas.

Rosary will be recited for Eileen at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 424 S. Central Ave., Chanute, Kansas 66720. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:30 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. A private burial will follow.
