Elaine Lenola Brown

Elaine L. Brown, age 98, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center, Chanute, Kansas. She was born September 30, 1919 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Fred Dewey and Ethel Marie (Brown) Dobson. Elaine graduated from Emporia High School and attended Emporia State University. She taught school for several years. Elaine married Donald W. Brown in 1942 and they made their home in Wichita, Kansas. In 1960, they moved to Iola and she worked at the Iola Public Library for 32 years where she was known and loved by several generations of Iolans as the children's librarian. Elaine was a member of the First Christian Church, D.A.R., Beta Sigma Phi, and the Wee Wick Depression Club. Elaine enjoyed reading, gardening, and identifying and feeding birds. She was very involved in the community as a volunteer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ethel Dobson; husband, Donald Brown in 1976; one daughter, Karen Brown Hostetler; one grandson, Samuel Morris; and one sister, Maxine Cartright. Elaine is survived by five daughters, Sharon Brown of Glidden, Wisconsin, Kathy Brown George (Larry) of Junction City, Kansas, Patricia Brown (Mark) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Jennifer Brown Westerman (Bill) of Chanute, Kansas and Sara Morris (John) of Augusta, Kansas; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, October 9, 2017, at the Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas. Family will greet friends on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola.
