Elaine Burns Neil Evans, 90, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Guest Home Estates in Iola. Elaine was born October 7, 1922, at Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Vere Thomas and Olive Josephine (Attkisson) Burns. She grew up at Hepler, St. Paul and Iola, graduating from Hepler High School. She attended college at Pittsburg, Kansas. In May of 1943, Elaine married Robert Eugene Neil and they made their home in Ft. Worth, Texas where she worked as head secretary for General Dynamics. They had two sons and divorced after 43 years of marriage. She returned to Iola to care for her mother. On March 17, 1986, Elaine married Keith F. Evans, Jr. in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Iola. She enjoyed dancing, playing bridge, genealogy and traveling to all 50 states. Her memberships include the Eastern Star at Moran, and the Garnett American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. SURVIVORS: Her Husband: Keith F. Evans, Jr. of Iola, KS 1 Son: Jim Neil & wife, Lynne of Ft. Worth, TX 1 Grandson: Eric Neil & wife, Carrie of Arlington, TX 2 Great Grandsons: Weston & Chandler Neil 1 Brother: Bob Burns & wife, Maude of Iola, KS 3 Step-Children: Steven Leib & wife, Marilynn of Phoenix, AZ, Martha McCoy of Dayton, VA and Richard Evans & wife, Sarah of Fuqua-Varina, North Carolina 7 Step-Grandchildren: Jamie, Joshua, Nathan, Andrew, Daniel, Jacob & Jessica Several nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Michael Robert Neil. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. VISITATION: An hour prior to the service BURIAL: Hepler City Cemetery, Hepler, KS MEMORIAL: Iola Senior Meal Center Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
