Elaine Lila Green

d. December 8, 2017

Elaine Lila Green, 74, of Moran, Kansas passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola, Kansas. Elaine was born in Kingman Memorial Hospital, Kingman, KS on September 20, 1943. The delivery was complicated. She was a twin (of brother, Dwayne) and became entangled in the umbilical cord and as a result suffered profound birth defects, including cerebral palsy. Early attempts at a remedy for her condition included surgery on her calves, which was unsuccessful. At an early age, she was transported regularly to the Wichita University campus for treatment and consultation. In 1949, when a residential campus to be known as the Institute of Logopedics was built in northeast Wichita, with Dr. Martin Palmer as Director, Elaine and her family moved there from Kingman. For the next decade, plus, she was a patient of the Institute in the speech, physical therapy, and occupational therapy programs. After her Father, Earl V. Green passed away in 1963 and when her mother L. Opal (Crumley), Elaine's sole caregiver, became unable to care for Elaine, in the mid 1960's, Elaine was placed in nursing homes in Kansas for the care she required. Opal passed away in 1969. Besides her father and mother, Elaine was preceded in death by brothers, Eldon, James, and her twin Dwayne. She is survived by one brother, Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine came to live at Moran Manor, Moran KS on 6/22/93. With the exception of a few months Elaine remained a fixture in the Manor. Anyone who visited the Manor more than once was considered a friend to Elaine. Strangers quickly became friends and Elaine knew every new resident coming to live there and most of their family members. Elaine was the longest term resident of the Manor at the time of her death and she will be missed by so many. Employees of the Manor rushed to her bedside to say goodbye upon hearing that she was not going to return to the Manor. Many tears were shed, many wonderful memories were shared and we laughed over some of Elaine's pranks and the funny things she did. Former employees, as well as those who currently provided care for Elaine were present at her bedside, ensuring that she got the send off she deserved, as she truly earned her angel wings. In addition to Elaine's brother Vernon and other biological family members, Elaine is survived by the many employees of Moran Manor, who ensured that she received the care she required on a daily basis. That was not always an easy task, as Elaine could be very quite demanding. These employees deserve a huge thank you for not only providing the care needed but also the daily emotional support she needed, as well as hugs, kisses and an occasional swat on the backside (only in fun)! Lastly, Elaine will be especially missed by Kay Walker, Elaine's "Person" for the past 10 + years. Fly high, our sweet Angel, you will never be forgotten. Elaine will be laid to rest at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman. Contributions in her memory are suggested to a fundraiser set up to help with her final expenses: https://www.youcaring.com/kaywalker-1040171 .
