Elizabeth "Betty" Rose Gehlen, 84, of Moran, Kansas, died Monday, February 17, 2014, at her home. Betty was born April 25, 1929, in Goddard, Kansas, the daughter of Max and Elizabeth Rose (Degand) Leis. She grew up at Rose Hill. On September 21, 1950, Betty married Vincent Gehlen at Blessed Sacrament Church in Wichita. They made their home in Gordon, Kansas for two years, Elsmore, Kansas for seven years and then Moran since 1960. Betty worked as an aide at Moran Manor and Arkhaven in Iola. She later worked as a program supervisor at the SRS Office in Iola. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Iola. Betty loved her grandkids and enjoyed gardening, canning, camping and fishing. SURVIVORS: Her husband of 63 years: Vincent Gehlen of the home 4 Children: Eugene Gehlen & companion Barbara Watkins of Richmond, KS, Sherry Kozicki & husband, Patrick of Augusta, KS, Patricia Smith & husband, Don of Wichita, and Gary Gehlen & wife, Andrea of Bronson, KS 2 Brothers: Victor Leis of Rose Hill, KS and Robert Leis of Cedarvale, KS 2 Sisters: Joyce Jones of Mulvane, KS and Lola Small of Florida 18 Grandchildren & 12 Great Grandchildren with one on the way She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Gehlen, brothers Tony, Cecil & Markus Leis, sisters Nettie, Henrietta & Nancy Ann, 2 great grandsons, Garrett & Wyatt, niece Vicki Small and nephew David Jones. PARISH ROSARY: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. FUNERAL MASS: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, also at the church following the rosary. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas MEMORIAL CHOICES: Mayo Clinic or Arc of Sedgwick County (Assn. for Retarded Citizens) Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
