Elmer Munsen

Elmer Munsen, 93, of Iola, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Windsor Place in Iola. Elmer was born May 30, 1923, in Marvin, South Dakota, the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Buschenfildt) Munsen. He grew up in South Dakota. On September 26, 1948, Elmer married Gladys E. Utley and they moved to Iola in 1958. Over the years, Elmer worked as a fireman for the City of Iola, at the Ford garage, Quality Packaging, Berg Manufacturing and Country Mart. Gladys preceded him in death December 23, 1998. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and later attended Rivertree Christian Church. Survivors include 3 daughters, Joyce Peck & husband, Glenn of LaHarpe, KS, Rose Abbe of Iola and Alice Rohr & husband, Lonnie of Iola; 5 grandsons; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter Marilyn Almasi and 5 siblings, Reuben, Mary, Thelma, Clara & Betty. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at Rivertree Christian Church, 301 W. Miller Road in Iola. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
