Elsie M. Bruenger, 89, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Friday, August 5, 2011, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. Elsie was born February 1, 1922, on the family farm east of Humboldt, Kansas, the daughter of Louis Fred and Agnes Margaret (Mueller) Bruenger. Until her health failed, she resided on the same family farm all of her life. She attended Center Grove Rural School, studied music and attended classes later on at Allen County Community College. Elsie worked in retail clothing most of her life. She worked for Helen Lacy at a clothing store in Humboldt, that she and her sister, Della later purchased. She worked as a salesclerk and bookkeeper for John Hatch for a number of years. Elsie also cared for her mother until her death and later cared for her brother, Russell, until his death. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Guild, Mission of Love Quilting Club, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and she served as chairperson of St. Peter's 125th Celebration. Elsie had also been active in the Humboldt B.P.W., women's bowling league and attended the "Old Hens" club of farmer's wives. SURVIVORS: 1 Brother: Melvin L. Bruenger & wife, Patricia of Humboldt, KS 1 Sister-In-Law: Verna Bruenger of Humboldt, KS 7 Nieces & Nephews and a number of great nieces and great nephews She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Russell Bruenger and Clarence Bruenger, and by two sisters, Della Frederick and Clara Cooper. VISITATION: 6:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt, KS FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
