Elsie Lavon Leake, 90, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute, Kansas. She was born April 6, 1920, at Bronson, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Alice (McGuire) Morris. She graduated from Iola High School in 1937. On August 3, 1937, Elsie married Roy W. Leake and they made their home in the Iola area. He died May 2, 1962. Elsie worked as a nurse's aide for several years and then for Berg Manufacturing before retiring. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, games, reading, going on trips and caring for animals. SURVIVORS: 5 Sons: David Leake & wife, Gayla of Amargosa Valley, NV, Roy Leake, Jr. of Humboldt, KS, Scott Leake & wife, Lorena of Mapleton, KS, Steven Leake & wife, Linda of Iola, KS and Jack Leake & wife, Laurie of Iola, KS 4 Daughters: Jane Gilbert & husband, Lee of Overland Park, KS, Mary Carter & husband, Harry of Overland Park, KS, Barbara Moorehouse & husband, Roy of Humboldt, and Pat Kress & husband, John of Piqua, KS 1 Sister: Rosalie Serl of Ontario, CA 16 Grandchildren and 28 Great Grandchildren A number of Nieces and Nephews She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 4 sisters, 1 grandchild and 1 great great grandchild. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL: Allen County Animal Rescue Foundation (ACARF) Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
