Emma Houtchens

Emma Mae Houtchens, age 89, formerly of Iola, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Life Care Center of Burlington. She was born on July 14, 1926 at LaPlata, Missouri the daughter of William and Esther Fulmer Snart. She married Bill Houtchens who preceded her in death. She enjoyed animals, especially cats. She always had the heart to take in a stray and care for it. She worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Oklahoma before retiring. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vada Mosley and Lorena Lock, and an infant brother. She is survived by two brothers, Donald Snart, and Clarence Burm Snart, and extended family and friends. Graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Mt Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until departure for cemetery at the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel, Iola, KS. The family suggests contributions to ACARF in care of the funeral home.
