Emma Catherine Sanderson, 89, of Humboldt, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Arrowood Lane in Humboldt. She was one of nine children born to Paul Otto and Flossie Blanche (Penwell) Joy on April 29, 1923 at Fredonia, Kansas. On May 5, 1942, Emma married Lawrence Morris Sanderson in Newton, Kansas. They made their home in Iola most of their married lives. They moved to Humboldt in 1994. They were married for 56 years before Mr. Sanderson preceded her in death on July 5, 1998. Emma was mostly a homemaker. During the war she worked in the tile factory in Pamona, California. She worked as a housekeeper at Allen County Hospital for 10 years and as a nurses aid and supervisor of housekeeping at Cliff Manor in Riverside, Missouri. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, Kansas. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: Larry Sanderson & wife, Wilma of Olathe, KS, and Bill Sanderson & wife, Debbie of Humboldt, KS 2 Daughters: Jacque Striker & husband, Jerry of Spring Hill, KS and Annette Cole & husband, Edwin of LaHarpe, KS 1 Brother: Paul Otto Joy of Wellington, KS 47 Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Sanderson, grandson James Lee Cole, 5 brothers, Sherman, Herbert, Estal, Bill and Charles Otto Joy and 2 sisters, Ruby Pearl Joy and Anita Kaesmeyer. VISITATION & FUNERAL SERVICE: The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, where the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL: First Baptist Church of Humboldt Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
