Ervin J. Yoder, age 95, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at his home.
He was born April 24, 1926, in Thomas, Oklahoma, the son of Jerry J. and Amanda (Mullet) Yoder.
Ervin was a member of the Old Order Amish Church, Garnett. He married Esther Beachy on August 6, 1959 in Garnett. He was a farmer and carpenter. Ervin owned a buggy wheel repair shop, built caskets, and fixed clocks.
He was a faithful husband, father, and grandfather who passed on his love for singing to his family. Many happy memories were made as we harmonized together in song. Lots of evenings were spent listening to Mom and Dad play the harmonica, playing games and putting puzzles together.
He dedicated 22 years as Superintendent and teacher at the local Amish Bible School. Through this, he touched the lives of many young people as he talked to them about God. He translated numerous hymns from English to German to be used for theme songs.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Amanda Yoder; three brothers, Ben Yoder, Joe Yoder, and Ira Yoder; two sisters, Emma Yoder and Fannie Yoder; two sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esther Yoder, of the home; seven children, Vernon Yoder and wife Beverly, Cathy Yoder, and Raymond Yoder and wife Vera, all of Garnett, Kansas; Marietta Yoder and husband Truman of Lincoln, Missouri; Connie Yoder and husband Glenn of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; Rose Yoder and husband Wesley of Garnett, Kansas; Ruth Bender and husband Everett of Auburn, Nebraska; 29 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Cora Miller of Melvern, Kansas; Miriam Jackson and husband Jerry of Adrian, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Ida Yoder of Garnett, Kansas; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM, on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at the Amish Community Building, 18240 NW 1800 Rd, Garnett, Kansas, with burial following in the Amish Cemetery.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 2:00 PM. to 4:00 PM at the Amish Community Building. On Saturday evening, a short service will be held at the Amish Community Building at 6:30 PM.
