Essie Mae McNutt, age 76, of Colony, Kansas passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2011, at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. She was born on January 14, 1935, at Cherry Valley, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary (Stark) Shannon. On November 8, 1950 Essie was united in marriage to Floyd McNutt at Burr Oak, Arkansas. This union was blessed with two children, Steven and Connie. Essie worked as a Medication Aide at the Arkhaven Nursing Home, Garnett, retiring in 1980. She enjoyed crappie fishing with her husband, and tending to her vegetable garden and flowers. She will be missed for her cooking and baking. Essie also liked to sew and quilt, however her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. Essie was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd on December 28, 2007; two brothers, Earnest and Edwin Shannon; and two sisters, Jewell Stephens and Faye Long. She is survived by one son, Steven McNutt of Colony, Kansas; one daughter, Connie Gamberel and husband Bob of Richmond, Kansas; one brother, Ralph Shannon and wife, Becky, of Maple Hill, Kansas; five grandchildren, Rob Gamberel; Brian Gamberel; Jennifer Fuller, Josh McNutt; and Zack McNutt; five great grandchildren; Kagen, Kinlee and Wesley Gamberel, Madison McNutt and Mason Fuller. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
