Esta Hodgeman

Esta Lee Hodgeman, 85, of Iola, Kansas, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola. Esta Lee was born July 10, 1924, at Rookins, Missouri the daughter of Otis Robert and Mary Effie (Clayton) Sheeks. She grew up in Missouri. She married Charles Soverns and he died April 15, 1945 in World War II. In 1950 she moved to the state of Washington. She sang with a band and met Donald Hodgeman, a guitar player. They married in 1962 and made their home in Nevada, Missouri before moving to Iola where they operated a guitar shop until retiring in 2004. Donald preceded her in death on September 28, 2008. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Charles Soverns & his wife, Kathy of Snohomish, Washington 1 Sister: Donna R. Ussary & her husband, Don of Savannah, Missouri 1 Granddaughter & 4 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by a grandson, a sister, Jean Nelson, and by two brothers, Clayton Sheeks and Larry Sheeks. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Rev. Tom Bevard will officiate. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, is in charge of arrangements.
