Ethyl Lorraine (Hall) Briggs, 88, of Kincaid, died on November 26, 2011 at Moran Manor. She was born August 11, 1923 on a farm five miles north of Garfield, Kansas, the middle of five daughters of Beverly Allen Hall and Bessie (Sprague) Hall. She graduated in 1940 from Garfield High School, and shortly thereafter the Hall family moved to Lone Elm. She attended Emporia State Teacher's College for one year and then worked in Wichita for Boeing for several years in the early 1940s. On February 19, 1946, she married George Wallace Briggs of Lone Elm, the second son of George Henry Briggs, Jr. and Cora Rebecca (Hoffmeier) Briggs. Her husband, George Wallace, her first-born son, Robert Eugene, who was still-born prematurely, as well as her sister Doris, and a granddaughter preceded Mrs. Briggs in death. She is survived by sisters Madeline, of Wichita, Kansas; Ruth, of Springfield, Illinois; and Jean, of Sun City, Arizona; her four sons, Richard and wife Dorothy of Dallas, Texas; Gary and wife Karen of Kincaid, Kansas; Arlyn of Kincaid, Kansas; and David and wife Sharry of Lenexa, Kansas; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. She was a dedicated housewife and mother who loved her family, enjoyed neighbors, and was a member of Colony Community Church. Visitation of the family will be held at the Colony Community Church on Friday, December 2, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Colony Community Church in Colony, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011, with Pastor Steve Bubna officiating. Funeral and cremation arrangements are being made by Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels of Iola. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Colony Community Church or to the Osteoporosis Foundation.
