Evelyn M. Knapp, 69 of Yates Center passed away March 2, 2017 at Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola. She was born November 4, 1947 in Reeds Springs, MO to William Russell and Esther Elizabeth (Rockwell) Maloney. Her family moved from Missouri in February of 1956. She grew up in Allen County and graduated from Iola High School in 1965. She attended school at Neosho County Community College and worked as a nurse, in several restaurants, and as a bookkeeper. Her life's work though, was raising her children and grandchildren. She was a skilled painter and cook, and loved fishing, gardening and other outdoor activities. She valued her family highly and never met a stranger. She had a love for animals. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Cari (Clements) Cavender and husband Chris of Yates Center, KS and Kay Schrag and husband Randy of Hesston, KS; twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; four sisters and one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Chris Clements, her parents and her brother Bill Maloney. A celebration of Evelyn's life directed by her family will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Community Building on South Fry Street in Yates Center.
