Fern Marie Miller, the first born daughter of Osie Lee Hirt and Amy Alice (Riffey) Hirt, was born January 19, 1926 at home near Westphalia, Kansas. Fern passed away on Tuesday, September, 26, 2023 at Guest Home Estates in Garnett, Kansas at the age of 97 years, eight months and seven days. She lived her entire life in Kansas. In July of 2020, Fern sustained a broken arm after falling. She then entered a health care facility, where she received therapy before moving to Guest Home Estates where she spent the remainder of her life.
Fern accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church on August 29, 1942 to which she remained faithful until death.
On August 27, 1944 she was united in marriage with Melvin Everett Miller at her home. To this union was born four sons. She is survived by son, Everett and wife, Lois, son, Harold and wife, Vernice, daughter-in-law, Lydia, son, Gail, and son, Dale and wife, Sharon; eight grandchildren and companions; 28 great-grandchildren; and 18 great- great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vernon and wife, Donna, Richard, Keith and wife, Marilyn; and one sister, Bernice Mason.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion; sister, Norma; sister-in-law, Anna May Hirt; brother-in-law Keith Mason; granddaughter, Bonnie Miller; great-grandson, Wade Miller; great-granddaughter, Carina Stamy; and great-grandson-in-law, Jordan Eichman.
Throughout her life Fern was anointed several times and that brought her much comfort.
After Dad's passing, Gail became a great help to Mother on the farm. They became as companions, taking care of each other. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord.
