Floy Nelson, age 101, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Windsor Place in Iola, Kansas.
Floy was born September 16, 1918 to James and Rosa (Shaw) Minkler near Kincaid, Kansas. She graduated from Kincaid High School in 1934. On August 3, 1940 she married Emmet W. Nelson. Their union was blessed with three children. They made their home in Iola, Kansas where Floy became a homemaker.
Floy was an avid seamstress and quilter. She loved to fish and garden in her spare time. If you went to her house, she never had an empty cookie jar. Floy loved people. She took every chance she could to fly. On her 99th birthday, she even took a flight with Jerry Daniels in his helicopter.
Floy is preceded in death by her husband, Emmet Nelson; parents, James and Rosa Minkler; brother, Milburn Minkler; sister, Pearline Stephens; and two infant brothers.
Floy is survived by three sons, Emmet Nelson of Grove, Oklahoma, Elvin Nelson and wife, Earline of Iola, Kansas, Elbert Nelson of Iola, Kansas; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; very special friend, Bonnie Johnson; and numerous other family members and friends.
A graveside service in honor of Floy will be held Monday, July 27, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the Lone Elm Cemetery in Lone Elm, Kansas. Family will greet friends on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
