Frances R. Babcock

Frances R. Babcock, age 85, of Colony, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. She was born on September 29, 1928, in Colony, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel D. and Edna V. (Newlon) Murphy. Frances graduated from Colony High School in 1946. She attended Kansas State University and then the University of Kansas, graduating in 1951 with a Nursing Degree. She worked in pediatrics at KU Medical Center. Frances was united in marriage to Jay Roy Babcock Jr. on April 18, 1964 in Kansas City, Missouri. They returned to Colony in 1966. This union was blessed with two children. She worked at SEK/Multi County Health Department until her retirement. Frances also served on the Crest School Board of Education for several years. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. Roy Babcock, Jr. on June 13, 2005; and her sister, Elsie Murphy in 1994. She is survived by her children; son Keith Babcock of Colony, Kansas; daughter Carol Carver and husband Troy of Canon City, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Jessica Babcock and Rebecca Carver. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Colony, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Colony Cemetery. Frances will lie in state at the funeral home in Colony after 2:00 PM on Tuesday; her family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
