Frank Ronald Mittelmeier, age 73, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, September 2, 2011, at the Iola Nursing Center. He was born August 9, 1938, at Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of Frank A. Mittelmeier and Alyce (Cellini) Matthews. He grew up in the Erie, Pennsylvania area and served two years with the United States Army. On July 25, 1964, he married Thelma Jean Fosdick in Mound City, Kansas. They made their home in Cleveland, Ohio until moving to Iola in 1974. Thelma preceded him in death on November 16, 2007. Frank Ronald worked for Haldex in Iola until he retired. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Iola Elks. He enjoyed reading history, loved learning and was well-known for his ever-present sense of humor. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: Mark Mittelmeier and Paul Mittelmeier both of Iola, KS 5 Grandchildren: Jenna Mittelmeier of Lawrence, KS, Blake, Hunter, Tristan and Kyler Mittelmeier all of Iola, KS His Mother: Alyce Matthews of Erie, PA His Step-Mother: Myrtle Nye of Erie, PA 1 Brother: Darrell Matthews of Erie, PA 1 Sister: Suzanne Bliel of Erie, PA Mother-In-Law: June Fosdick of Iola, KS He was preceded in death by his father and step-father, James Matthews. MEMORIAL MASS: 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2011, at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. The Reverend Robert B. Wachter will be celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound at a later date.
