Former Elsmore, Kansas resident Freda W. Stange died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the age of 92 in Topeka, Kansas. Freda was born September 25, 1920, in Lebanon, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Chloda (Davis) Jones. She grew up in Lebanon where she attended school and was pianist in the Methodist Church. On June 8, 1941, Freda married Louis Stange and they made their home in Chanute where she worked at Johnson Hospital as a student nurse until Louis returned from the service. They made their home and farmed together west of Elsmore the rest of their married lives. Freda also owned and operated The Fabric Shop in Humboldt, and worked for Humboldt Developmental Center and the Iola Pharmacy. Louis preceded her in death on March 21, 1999. Freda was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Guild in Humboldt and the Town and Country Club in Elsmore. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, handwork and crafts. SURVIVORS: 3 Children: Louis Stange, Jr. & wife, Linda of Uniontown, Ohio, James Stange & wife, Debra of Howard, KS, and Barbara Kater & husband, Charles of Topeka, KS Son-In-Law: Dennis Hawkinson of Springfield, MO 11 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Rebecca Hawkinson and granddaughter Sally. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
