Frieda Peters, age 95, of Richmond, Kansas, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, at her home.
Frieda Irene Miller was born on November 24, 1926, in Garnett, Kansas. She was born to Joseph F. Miller and Anna C. (Foltz) Miller. Frieda attended grade schools in Anderson and Franklin counties before graduating 8th grade from Bush City and then from Garnett High School in 1946. Following high school Frieda worked at the Garnett Sewing Factory and then for Dr. White at his hospital. On May 28, 1949, Frieda was united in marriage to Loyd Peters. It was a double wedding ceremony, shared with her sister, Clarann. Their union was blessed with eight children: Maurice, Dennis, Linda, Earl, Alvin, Mary, Diane, and Karen. They began their married life in Parsons, Kansas, moving to Garnett in 1951. In 1959 they moved to their home on the hill west of Richmond where they lived for 50 years. Frieda operated a day care for children in her home for over 33 years. The last count tallied over 106 children that Frieda cared for over the years. She also dressed chickens for others, at the height her chicken dressing days she could dress between 150-200 chickens by noon and still take care of the children.
Frieda was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, and the Altar Society there, where she held each of the offices at one time. Frieda also taught CCD and First Communion Classes for many years. She was also a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, serving as Chaplain for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Walter Miller; husband, Loyd on February 14, 2009; son, Maurice in 1996; daughter-in-law, Judith Peters in 1990; two grandchildren, Jimmie Peters in 2001 and Kimberly Peters in 2017; sister, Clarann O'Malley and husband, Bob; brother, Richard "Dick" Miller and wife, Judy; and sister-in-law, Norma Miller.
Frieda is survived by three sons, Dennis Peters and wife Sarah of Richmond, Earl Peters of Marion, Kansas, Alvin Peters and wife Gayle of Garnett; four daughters, Linda Peters of Carl Junction, Missouri, Mary Peters of Richmond, Diane Peters of Ottawa, Kansas, and Karen Peters of Richmond; four grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren by choice; brother, Leon "Bud" Miller of Drummond, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, James Peters of Lakeland, Florida.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 11, 2022, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Richmond, Kansas, burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett, with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, Frieda's wishes were to continue to support the next generation of Catholic youth, memorial contributions may be made to the Carmelite Stars (church youth group) and left in care of the funeral home.
